A special e-single offer promotes Radio Belly, Buffy Cram’s debut collection of stories

Published by Douglas & McIntyre: an imprint of D&M Publishers

Well, I have been looking forward to reviewing Buffy Cram's Radio Belly and I know it's due to land on my desk at any point so I am very excited. More exciting though, is that I can explore one of the stories 'Large Garbage' in a free (for a limited time) downloadable e-single. You can bet that as soon as I finish this post I am headed right there but I wanted to share the info with my blog readers first. Here is what the wonderful folks over at Douglas & McIntyre had to say about it:

To introduce readers to the fresh and inventive writing of young author Buffy Cram, Douglas & McIntyre: an imprint of D&M Publishers is proud to release a free, downloadable e-single featuring “Large Garbage” a story from Radio Belly, her debut book that publishes on April 21, 2012 in paperback and ebook editions (Paperback ISBN 978-1-55365-902-0, Ebook ISBN 978-1-55365-903-7).

In Large Garbage: A Radio Belly Single, a smug suburbanite becomes obsessed with the “hybrids,” the wandering mob of intellectual vagrants overrunning his complacent little cul-de-sac, snacking on pâté and reciting poetry. Equally repelled by the hybrids’ uncleanliness and intrigued by their freedom, Henry draws dangerously close to their secret nighttime life of sloshing claret and Proust quotes that overflow from finger-printed wine glasses and dirt-smudged lips.

Large Garbage: A Radio Belly Single also features an exclusive Q&A with Buffy Cram that delves into her influences, her themes, and her love of travel. The e-single is available through all ebook vendors—including Kobo, Nook and Kindle—for free until April 5, 2012, at which point it will be priced at $0.99.

In advance praise for Radio Belly, Quill & Quire says, "...[the] speculative, off-kilter tinge ... allows Cram to represent shifts of mental and emotional ballast with a very light and descriptive touch."

Buffy Cram’s fiction has appeared in Prairie Fire, The Bellevue Literary Review and Darwin’s Bastards: Astounding Tales from Tomorrow. She has spent the last decade teaching and writing in Vancouver, Montreal, Boston, Texas, Mexico, South Korea, South America and various parts of Europe. She currently lives in Berlin.
